Soulshifter by Barbara Pietron

 Soulshifter by Barbara Pietron
Genre: Young Adult
Publication: November 24th, 2015

Sixteen-year-old Jack Ironwood knew exactly what he wanted. Until he got it. Jack was content to stay unnoticed by pretty and popular track-star, Natalie Segetich, until he overhears her claim that something took her friend Emma. As a soulshifter who can cross into the underworld, Jack knows the human stealing Enuuk- hell's messengers-are real and that a successful rescue mission would secure a future otherwise out of his reach. Working together, Jack and Natalie devise a plan to outwit the ruler of the underworld. Then on the eve of the quest, as Jack stands on the verge of seeing his dreams come true, he realizes he's no longer sure what he wants. But it's too late to back out. Pursued by the dark lord's henchmen and ghastly mutant creatures, Jack and Natalie struggle to come out ahead of a battle and barter for souls. In the end Jack will have to decide his own fate, because nothing short of a deal with the devil will get all three of them out of hell alive.

Purchase:

For fans of Alyson Nöel's Soul Seekers series, Soulshifter is the right book for you! It has spirit-walking which is totally awesome in my opinion. Barbara Pietron delivers a book that is fresh and exciting with a male lead that I absolutely adored. The lore was interesting and different, a new idea that hasn't been done to death. The characters were well developed and I liked the supernatural aspect of it a whole lot. Barbara Pietron had a set up for a really great book. Alright now moving on to what I didn't like about it... The set up was a little too drawn out, it took about 100 pages to set up the actual rescue of Emma then another 100 pages to actually save her. I would have preferred to see more of the Underworld, since it seemed to be a different type of Underworld. I mean one ruled by a king that steals innocent souls? Yes please! More info would have been great. Because of this I can only give this story 4 stars. It was good, but it could have been so much better. The ending... I mean the ending was great so I'm hoping there's a follow-up story to tie that up. One can only hope! Until next time happy thanksgiving everyone!!

RELEASE DAY BLITZ!!! Cage of Deceit by Jennifer Anne Davis

HAPPY RELEASE DAY!
Cage of Deceit by Jennifer Anne Davis
Reign of Secrets #1
Young Adult, Fantasy
Publication: August 25th, 2015

Cage of Deceit by Jennifer Anne Davis is the first in the Reign of Secrets trilogy, a spin-off of Jennifer's True Reign series. This book was absolutely amazing and I'm so happy that I was able to be a part of this blog tour! Fans of the Throne of Glass series, Game of Thrones, and any other title of the same genre will love this book as much as I have.

Seventeen-year-old Allyssa appears to be the ideal princess of Emperion- she's beautiful, elegant, and refined. She spends her days locked in a suffocating cage, otherwise known as royal court. But at night, Allyssa uses her secret persona-that of a vigilante-to hunt down criminals and help her people firsthand.

Unfortunately, her nightly escapades will have to wait because the citizens of Emperion may need saving from something much bigger than common criminals. War is encroaching on their country and in order to protect her people, Allyssa may have to sacrifice her heart. Forced to entertain an alliance through marriage with a handsome prince from a neighboring kingdom, she finds herself feeling even more stifled than before. To make matters worse, the prince has stuck his nosy squire, Jarvik, to watch her every move.

Jarvik is infuriating, bossy and unfortunately, the only person she can turn to when she unveils a heinous plot. Together, the unlikely pair will have to work together to stop an enemy that everyone thought was long gone, one with the power to destroy her family and the people of Emperion. Now the cage Allyssa so longed to break free from might just be the one thing she has to fight to keep intact. In order to save her kingdom, she will have to sacrifice her freedom, her heart, and maybe even her life.

An amazing story with a great cast of characters and brilliant plot, Cage of Deceit was everything I hoped for and so much more! The story was full of twists and turns and lots of deceit. The title is very fitting for the story as this is how Allyssa feels and what's going on around her. My favorite character is Jarvik! He's amazing and I love how he can see right through Allyssa. I also love Allyssa! Fans of a strong female heroine will fall in love with this amazingly strong heroine. Heroine is defined as: a woman admired or idealized for her courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Allyssa is all that and so much more!

I give this book a 5/5! I literally could not put it down and read through it in 2 hours. It was a great read and I can't wait for book two! I want to read book two right now, but alas I'll have to wait until it comes out! Bravo Jennifer Anne Davis for giving readers an amazing new world to love and obsess over!
GIVEAWAY!
I will be giving away ONE (1) copy of Cage of Deceit, all you have to do is win is contact krislenabear@gmail.com with a number between 1 and 10. I will pick the winner on Saturday August 29th!

Everneath by Brodi Ashton

Everneath by Brodi Ashton is a wonderful twist on the Hades and Persephone myth with elements of fae myths woven in for good measure. The book was fast paced, the characters well defined, and the story line perfectly wonderful. I loved the characters from the very beginning, especially Cole!!

Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath. Now she’s returned—to her old life, her family, her boyfriend—before she’s banished back to the underworld . . . this time forever. She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can’t find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.
Nikki longs to spend these precious months forgetting the Everneath and trying to reconnect with her boyfriend, Jack, the person most devastated by her disappearance—and the one person she loves more than anything. But there’s just one problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who enticed her to the Everneath in the first place, has followed Nikki home. Cole wants to take over the throne in the underworld and is convinced Nikki is the key to making it happen. And he’ll do whatever it takes to bring her back, this time as his queen.
As Nikki’s time on the Surface draws to a close and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she is forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole’s queen.

The story had twists in it and great folklore. The lore was very believable, giving the reader the sense that something like this could actually happen. I give this book a 5/5 for keeping me engaged, having a great story, a plot that flowed beautifully, and for being a quick read. Overall this book is amazing and I recommend anyone who likes fairies, fantasy novels, and Greek myths to read it! It has something in it for almost everyone.

Happy reading!

Plus One by Elizabeth Fama

Plus One by Elizabeth Fama was absolutely amazingly good. Lots of plot twists and great character development! The book has romance, adventure, action... Lots of amazing stuff all rolled into one to give a superb reading experience! The character Sol was so dynamic and entertaining and the story unfolded rapidly.

Divided by day and night and on the run from authorities, star-crossed young lovers unearth a sinister conspiracy in this compelling romantic thriller.
Seventeen-year-old Soleil Le Coeur is a Smudge--a night dweller prohibited by law from going out during the day. When she fakes an injury in order to get access to and kidnap her newborn niece--a day dweller, or Ray--she sets in motion a fast-paced adventure that will bring her into conflict with the powerful lawmakers who order her world, and draw her together with the boy she was destined to fall in love with, but who is also a Ray.

Plus one had vivid characters that captivated me from the first page. This book was so well written and very enjoyable. Sol and her world were very well thought out and executed nicely. The world of Rays and Smudges was amazing!! The plot had lots of twists but I can’t say anything more without spoiling it! I give this book a 5/5 for being amazing! The plot was great, the characters were well thought out and grew throughout the story, the setting was amazingly unique and new which is kinda hard to find in young adult novels these days. I recommend this book to fans of Dystopian/Utopian books.
Happy reading!

Ink by Amanda Sun

I just finished Ink by Amanda Sun yesterday and omg it is AMAZING! The book combines a bunch of my favorite things: Japan, the supernatural, gods, and cute boys!

The book follows Katie Greene as she navigates life in Japan. She meets a boy named Yuu Tomohiro and things start getting weird. They have to deal with Yuu's strange powers, the Yakuza, and of course school life!

I give this book a 5/5! I couldn't put it down, the cover is amazing as well as the beautiful artwork throughout the book. The plot flows nicely and has a lot going on. Can't wait to read the next book!!
